This information is based on our testing and should be used for guidance only. Due to the wide variety of systems available you may experience different results.

[MS-DOS]

Rebel Assault is a DOS based game and so will run as long a you have CD drivers (MSCDEX.exe) installed. You also need drivers for your sound card, Rebel Assault supports most Sound Blaster (upto SB16), Gravis Ultrasound, Pro AudioSpectum and Aria sound cards..

There is an option to make a 'boot disk' using the main Rebel Assault menu. Booting from this disk may help to resolve any problems regarding memory allocation.

[Windows 95] [Windows 98]

NB: Currently awaiting testing

It may be possible to play Rebel Assault in Windows 95/98 if you have DOS based CD drivers installed. This will depend on whether your manufacturer has supplied your system with these or not.

To try it out go to shutdown and select 'Reboot in MS-DOS mode', you should then be able to switch to your CD drive by typing 'D:' (or similar) then type 'REBEL' to start the game.

If you can't get to the CD drive whilst in DOS mode consider using DOSBox to emulate DOS.

[Windows 2000] [Windows XP] [Windows 2003] [Linux]

The DOS release of Rebel Assault will not play natively on these platforms. You will need to use a DOS emulator. We recommend DOSBox, check out the info page for more details.

[Mac OS X PPC]

The Mac release of Rebel Assault will run in the Classic environment on OS X however the performance is very poor. Testing on a Mac Mini only gives a few frames per second, which makes gameplay impossible. Performance might be improved on a higher specified Mac, however it might just be a limitation of the Classic environment.

A demo is available which includes both PPC and 68K versions, give it a go if you want to check compatibility before buying the full version.

If you do attempt to play it make sure you have installed the PPC patch as it does improve performace somewhat.

It's possible to play the DOS release of Rebel Assault on Mac OS X using DOSBox. Again you're going to need a speedy CPU, it just about playable using frameskipping on a 1.2Ghz G4 but would clearly benifit from something a bit faster.

[Mac Classic PPC] [Mac Classic 68k]

A version of Rebel Assault was released for the Mac. However we're not sure what the minimum specs are. Patches are available for both 68k and PPC
