Mission 16: The Battle of Calamari
This is the final mission of the game and is set six years after the Battle of Endor. You switch from playing as Luke Skywalker to playing as Wedge Antilles. Your objective in this level is to save the planet of Calamari from the World Devastators which are described as 'More powerful and unstoppable than the Death Star' in the introduction. Fortunataly they're not actualy that hard to destroy. The first Devastator you will come across has both missile launchers and gun turrets to defend itself. You can press 'F' for a short burst of speed from the V-Wing to evade any incoming missiles. To destroy one of the Devastators take out the shield generator on the top, it looks like the ones on an Star Destroyer. You should then shoot out its 'legs', once you have destroyed two it will fall into the sea. Be careful not to fly too near the back of the Devastator as it has an inlet that is sucking in sea water, if you get too near you will be pulled into the ship. Also make sure that you are not underneath the Devastator when you shoot out the second leg as it will fall on to you. Once the first Devastator has been destroyed you will have to defend some buildings from a new form of Tie Fighter. They are fast but not very strong. If you collected the Cluster Seeker Missiles bonus from Mission 15 then just fire one of your cluster missiles when you are in the vicinity and they will usually take out all the Ties on the screen. After those Ties have been dispatched you will have to take down another Devastator, fortunataly this new one doesn't have any missile turrets so it's fairly easy to disable it. Once you have finished with it you will have to destroy more Ties then another Devastator and finally some more Ties. The mission, and the game, is complete when you have destroyed the last Tie. You will get a final cutscene, you medal award (if any), and then a final congratulations cutscene which changes depending on the level of the medals you recieved. You can gain access to the bonus missions by completing all the levels with all bronze, silver or gold medals. Copyright 1997-2006 Gordon Johnston - Hosted by newswall.org.uk |
