Shadows Of The Empire is the third game in the Rebel Assault series.

In Shadows you play as Dash Rendar against Prince Xizar the Lord of the Black Sun. The game is set after the second movie and at one stage you have to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hut. The graphics in this game are created in real-time unlike the earlier Rebel Assualt games. To play this game you need a 3D card (perferably one using a 3Dfx chipset). The graphics were impressive at the time but now look dated when compared to those in Rogue Squadron.
The gameplay takes several forms, similar to those in Rebel Assault 2. The game starts will the Battle of Hoth, where you fly a snow speeder in a 3rd person perspective view.

In this mission you have to shoot out probe droids and AT-ST's. Also you have to pull down AT-AT's using your tow cable. To be honest this first level is probably the best in the game. Other levels include a Doom / Jedi Knight style game, for some reason this just doesn't feel right. The graphics in these levels are not particually special and you would be much better playing Jedi Knight.
Another feature of Shadows are challenge points, these lie in hard to reach locations and collecting them can be quite a challenge.
In one of the other levels you get to go on a speeder bike chase through Mos Eisley, this is not very well done and is ultimetly dissapointing.

Shadows is now available on budget (Classic Line) for around £13. To be honest your better buying Rogue Squadron (based on the Battle of Hoth level), or Jedi Knight.
If you can pick this up for under £10 it's probably worth a try just to see what the fuss was all about.
